The Ultimate Ford Transit Van Conversion & Moto Build

While we’ve always built the GFR layout in the Mercedes Sprinter chassis, a customer requested our GFR motovan layout in a Ford Transit. Normally, this van conversion layout is done in a Sprinter 170, but this custom project gave us the opportunity to adapt the design for a shorter van while maintaining all the functionality and style of the classic GFR layout.

Adapting the Layout for a Shorter Van

The main difference between the Mercedes Sprinter and the Ford Transit when it comes to van builds is overall length. The Transit is about 6” shorter, which required us to make key adjustments without sacrificing functionality.

To maintain bed length and storage for gear:

  • We added an inset wheel chock in the lower partition wall to fit a dirt bike and allow it to move forward.
  • We skipped lower door panel accessories so the rear door clears the rear tire.
  • Bikes cannot be staggered side-by-side due to the shorter space, but the garage area is still fully functional.

Kitchen Galley Modifications

To fit the Ford Transit’s dimensions, we modified the custom kitchen galley:

  • Installed a slightly smaller fridge and cooler setup
  • Notched the galley around the larger Ford Transit pillar
  • Added a stronger angle at the cabinet end to allow smoother passage from garage to living area

Despite these changes, the working surface area, drawer storage, and sink setup remain the same as our standard GFR layout when it’s in the Mercedes Sprinter Van.

Features That Make This Build Stand OuT

This custom van conversion comes loaded with high-end and off-grid features:

  • AC unit and powered awning
  • Full off-grid power system
  • Full-color spectrum lights
  • 44 gallons of hot water
  • Onboard air system
  • Complete Elra accessories
  • Gas cans from Risk Racing
  • Electric pressure washer and fully loaded toolbox
  • Stainless steel countertops
  • First-ever Ford Transit door panels designed by Carrve

Up front, the classic GFR layout includes:

  • Couch that folds into a bed
  • Dinette table with stainless steel custom finish
  • Custom shelving matching the dinette aesthetics
  • TV, overhead storage, and under-cab lighting
  • Swivel seats for a spacious living area

Even in the shorter Ford Transit, the open layout and thoughtful storage create a comfortable, functional space to live, work, and hang out.

Designed Around Adventure and Lifestyle

Every GFR build is designed around gear and lifestyle, ensuring there’s room for bikes, boards, and other essentials while keeping the interior spacious and usable. This Transit moto van proves that even a shorter van can accommodate a fully functional, off-grid-ready layout without compromising style or performance.
